You will develop and deliver undergraduate lectures, seminars, and workshops in a variety of Classical Studies topics, including the following areas: Roman art and archaeology of daily life, ritual and religion, and power and politics; introductory sessions on the archaeology of prehistory and the Roman period in Britain and the Mediterranean; epigraphy; the archaeology and heritage of Roman Lincoln; and digital methods in classical studies and landscape archaeology. The Classical Studies programme has recently been revalidated for the launch of a new suite of modules in 26/27, although scheduled teaching remains subject to change in line with internal processes.
The School of Humanities and Heritage has a dynamic and collaborative research culture. As part of the College of Arts, Social Sciences and the Humanities, the school offers well-established programmes in English, History and Conservation and a range of newer programmes in Modern History, Philosophy, and Classical Studies (established in 2018). We take teaching, research, and student experience very seriously. In the last REF 65 per cent of our research publications were rated world-leading (four star) – placing us first in the UK for the ratio of four-star outputs out of 80 institutions submitting in this Unit of Assessment. Philosophy is ranked fourth in the U.K. for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2022 and fifth in the U.K. in the Guardian University Guide 2023 and 2024.
