Overall Purpose of the Role:

We are looking for a compassionate, organised, and proactive individual to join our team as a Student Disability and Wellbeing Advisor. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting students and creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To act as a specialist point of reference for advice on student disability and wellbeing matters
  • To conduct SpLD screenings
  • To advise students on the process for securing SpLD diagnosis
  • To work with our admissions team on supporting students that declare disability at the application stage
  • To work with our Director of Studies Office to support students on Mental Health and Wellbeing plans
  • To work with the Quality and Registry teams on ensuring the effective implementation of reasonable adjustments
  • To provide 1-2-1 information and support to students with wellbeing and disability needs
  • To offer individual support for students on accessing the Disabled Students Allowance
  • To respond to and manage (where appropriate) CRISIS response
  • To provide support to staff who are working with students with disabilities
  • To be part of a team providing a package of distinctive student support activities
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with our principles of confidentiality 

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Able to respond sensitively to the needs of students experiencing mental distress
  • Able to assess and manage CRISIS situation
  • A demonstrably high level of personal discretion and judgement especially when dealing with sensitive or confidential information
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work proactively to identify and resolve problems
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work within professional boundaries
  • IT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel spreadsheets

Education

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant qualifications/ training in a field such as MH Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy

Experience

  • Experience in Safeguarding or a willingness to learn about this area
  • Appropriate work experience with adults and mental health difficulties
  • Ability to respond sensitively to student needs
  • Understanding of issues affecting students in HE 

The successful candidate will work as a part of a team to ensure the availability of student services Monday – Saturday. Some evening shifts will be required during term time.

Work location: Onsite in Manchester
