Research Associate (Fixed Term)

The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a post-doctoral scientist to join the research group of Professor Suzanne Turner in the Department of Pathology. We are searching for a highly motivated scientist to investigate mechanisms of drug resistance in paediatric cancers.

Neuroblastoma is a rare childhood cancer of the peripheral nervous system that has a poor prognosis particularly for children diagnosed with high-grade disease. Our research seeks to understand why this is the case with a particular focus on drug resistance mechanisms and the development of novel biomarkers to identify poor prognosis patients. In particular, this project funded by the Little Princess Trust is looking at post-translational histone modifications towards novel therapeutic approaches and associated biomarkers towards clinical application. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of cancer biology and experience of molecular biology techniques as well as experience in supervising PhD students.

Candidates must have a PhD in biological sciences, and a track record of research achievements. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques including chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing are essential. Fixed-term: The post is available until 10 January 2027 in the first instance with a negotiable starting date and subject to a 6-month probationary period.

The Department of Pathology is a very active research and teaching department in the School of Biological Sciences. We offer modern laboratory spaces, flow cytometry, imaging, histology, proteomics and sequencing facilities in the centre of Cambridge. We host an external seminar series as well as internal talks, journal clubs, and a Departmental annual symposium. There are approximately 40 research groups spanning a wide array of disciplines, including infectious and genetic diseases, immunology and cancer biology.
