The research group of Professor Luning Liu (www.luningliu.org) is looking for an experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead a BBSRC funded project to develop synthetic biology approaches and protein condensation assays for bioinspired design and generation of a new type of cell-sized synthetic cell built purely from proteins. Microfluidic systems and state-of-the-art high-resolution imaging will be employed to control and visualise the assembly process of organelle-based synthetic cells in unprecedented detail. This project will open up new avenues for the design and generation of versatile and customizable protein-based biomaterials with specific and/or new functions.
You will have the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary skills in synthetic biology, bioengineering, microfluidics, and nanoscale bioimaging. You will be involved in world-class research and worldwide networking, including a close collaboration with the US partners.
You should have a PhD degree in protein biochemistry/molecular biology/biotechnology and experience of organelle biology, carboxysomes, and condensation assays.
The post is available for three years.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
