Role summary

Applications are invited for a fixed-term Cathy and Eli Lauterpacht Early Career Fellow in International Law, based at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, in collaboration with the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. This appointment is for a period of three years. 

This Fellowship offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to undergraduate teaching in Law at the University of Cambridge while pursuing an independent research project of international standing within the field of International Law. 

The teaching component involves delivering undergraduate supervisions for Trinity Hall students, amounting to approximately 4–6 hours per week during term. The College currently has particular teaching needs in European Law and Human Rights Law. 

The postholder will be nominated for a Staff Fellowship at Trinity Hall, subject to approval by the relevant College bodies. They will be expected to contribute to College governance, including attendance at Governing Body meetings, and to undertake related academic duties as requested by the Senior Tutor. 

Fellows’ privileges include generous dining rights, the possibility of limited financial support for expenses associated with their research, and, if required and if available, free residential accommodation in the College. 

The successful candidate will also become a Fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, one of the specialist centres within the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge. Desk space at the Lauterpacht Centre will be provided to the successful candidate. 

Applicants should normally hold a doctorate in a relevant field and be within 5 years of the awarding of their PhD by the start of the appointment. They should demonstrate outstanding ability in both research and teaching through an excellent record of publications relative to their career stage and evidence of effective undergraduate teaching.
