Are you an experienced Midwife or Nurse with specialist skills in early pregnancy care and ultrasound? Join Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research as a Research Midwife, where you will play a vital role supporting clinical research studies focused on early pregnancy complications.

In this role, you will provide expert clinical and ultrasound support in early pregnancy research clinics, working closely with women experiencing pain, bleeding, or at increased risk of miscarriage. You will independently perform clinical assessments and transvaginal ultrasound scans following study protocols and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) standards.

You will be responsible for managing nursing and midwifery support during trial recruitment and coordination, guiding nursing staff involved in projects, and contributing to research strategies. Your duties include recruiting and screening participants, facilitating informed consent, collecting samples, and ensuring ongoing patient care and follow-up.

You will also interpret ultrasound results, escalate abnormal findings like ectopic pregnancies or miscarriages according to clinical pathways, and ensure study-specific investigations are completed. Accurate documentation and data management are essential, as is attending multidisciplinary meetings and collaborating with clinical and academic teams to deliver high-quality research that improves care for women with early pregnancy complications.

You should be a registered and qualified Nurse or Midwife with evidence of ongoing professional or academic development. You need to demonstrate competence in performing transvaginal ultrasound scans in early pregnancy and have experience in clinical patient assessment. You should be able to coordinate and manage nursing and midwifery staff effectively. Being computer literate, especially in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word, is important. Strong written and oral communication skills are required, with the ability to explain and interpret procedures clearly and sensitively. You must be able to work independently using your own initiative, as well as collaborate well within a team.
