About the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Health

The School of Computer Science at UOWD is a vibrant and growing academic unit offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs aligned with contemporary industry and research priorities. The School places strong emphasis on modern computing disciplines, applied research, and high‑quality teaching supported by industry engagement.

Driven by increasing student enrolments in Cybersecurity and Computer Science majors, and the recent launch of the Master of Applied Cybersecurity, the School is expanding its academic capacity to strengthen teaching, research output, and postgraduate supervision in this critical discipline. 

About the Role

UOWD invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor role in Modern Cybersecurity. This is a new appointment supporting program growth at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The role is balanced across teaching and research, with a full teaching load and strong expectations for research productivity, postgraduate supervision, and contribution to the academic development of the School.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering core and specialist cybersecurity subjects, supervising Master’s research, and contributing to UOWD’s research profile in modern cybersecurity.

The appointee will teach across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, which may include:

Postgraduate / Specialisation Subjects

  • MACS901 – Advanced Network Security & Threat Detection
  • MACS902 – Modern Cryptography
  • MACS903 – Secure Software Development & Penetration Testing
  • MACS904 – Cloud, IoT & Emerging Technologies Security
  • MACS905 – Cybersecurity Governance, Risk & Compliance
  • MACS906 – Cybersecurity Strategy & Leadership
  • MDT917 – Cyber Security Practitioner

Undergraduate / Core Subjects

  • CSIT302 – Cyber Security
  • CSCI369 – Ethical Hacking
  • CSCI368 – Network Security
  • CSIT110 – Fundamental Programming with Python
  • CSIT114 – System Analysis
  • CSIT115 – Data Management & Security
  • CSIT121 – Object‑Oriented Design & Programming
  • CSCI251 – Advanced Programming
  • CSCI235 – Database Systems
  • CSIT314 – Software Development Methodologies

Teaching responsibilities include:

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Supervision of Master’s dissertations and research projects
  • Use of modern, interactive, and technology‑enabled teaching approaches 

Research Expectations

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong and sustained research profile, including:

  • A minimum of ten (10) peer‑reviewed journal publications in the last five years
  • Publications indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science
  • Evidence of secured research funding and grant activity
  • Engagement in interdisciplinary research collaboration
  • Clear alignment of research agenda with modern cybersecurity themes

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Selection Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A PhD in Computer Science, with a doctoral thesis in Cybersecurity
  • A Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
  • Ideally at least 4 years of teaching experience at an internationally recognized institution
  • Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science
  • Demonstrated expertise in modern cybersecurity tools, technologies, and practices
  • Proven ability to teach large undergraduate and postgraduate classes
  • Strong research track record in cybersecurity
  • Fluency in the English language (both spoken and written)
  • Excellent communication skills

Candidates not meeting these criteria will not progress to interview.

Desirable Attributes

  • Prior teaching experience in the GCC or similar international contexts
  • Industry experience in advanced cybersecurity systems or the IT/technology sector
  • Ability to integrate practical, hands‑on cybersecurity tools into teaching and research

Compensation and Benefits

The successful candidate will enjoy interaction with a professional and dynamic team of highly respected educators from over 50 different countries and exposure to students from over 100 nationalities.

The University offers an expatriate package, which is an attractive tax-free salary. The expatriate package includes six weeks of paid leave per year, annual flight allowance and private medical insurance for the employee and eligible dependents, life and disability insurance, and education allowance for dependents. The University is located in Knowledge Park, Dubai and has excellent teaching, learning and research facilities as well as access to Library resources that meets international standards.
