About the role
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced administrators for the full-time post of Governance Manager at Newnham College, Cambridge.
This post, reporting to the Bursar, is key to the good governance of the College and plays a vital role in supporting the College’s Trustees (the Council), the Governing Body and other Committees, through drafting policy papers and taking minutes on issues across the full range of the College’s activities in education, learning and research. The Governance Manager is responsible for records and information management relating to College governance, Fellows and senior members, and also provides administrative support to College Officers, in particular the Bursar and Vice-Principal. In addition, the successful candidate will provide key support to the Fellowship and senior membership of the College, helping them to feel part of the College community and to feel connected throughout their association with the College.
This is a full-time, permanent post requiring 37.5 hours per week, although part-time (minimum 30 hours) can be considered. These are worked Monday to Friday at the College, and flexibility is occasionally required to cover meetings which begin at 6.00pm, for which time off in lieu is given where appropriate. The post line-manages one team member. The annual salary is paid at point 45 on the University’s single salary spine which currently equates to £42,254 per annum. The College offers other benefits, including 33 days a year holiday inclusive of bank holidays, your Birthday as an additional paid day off, free lunches and parking when on duty, and free use of the College gym. The post is pensionable under the USS pension scheme with a current employer contribution rate of 14.5%.
About you
This role would suit someone educated to degree level or equivalent, who has experience of, and will be at ease with, dealing and negotiating with people at all levels and who has excellent written skills. We are seeking someone who can work pro-actively with tact and discretion, who has a strong understanding of the challenges and pressures of a fast-paced working environment, academic or otherwise, and who is ready to meet those challenges.
