Birmingham Newman’s History degrees are flexible and innovative, offering students the opportunity to study a wide range of topics from the ancient to the modern world. We offer BA (SH) History (with Foundation Year) and BA (SH) History, and our graduates have the opportunity to progress on to MA (Hons) Applied Humanities. We attract students who are curious about the past, keen to understand contemporary issues of the day and eager to develop problem-solving skills for future graduate employment.
We seek to appoint a teaching-focused historian with a wide knowledge of history and historical approaches, and with a specialism in social, cultural and/or political History in the modern world. We welcome applications from historians with interdisciplinary interests or experiences. We will appoint a creative thinker who is keen to teach across academic boundaries and to encourage students to prepare for employment and for active citizenship.
Applicants must possess undergraduate and/or postgraduate degrees in History and must hold a PhD in History. Applicants should have experience of delivering high-quality teaching in a HE setting and of programme development or course-level management.

To provide high-quality teaching, learning and assessment on the History programme, and on any other cognate programmes
