The department has an international reputation for teaching and research, with nearly 90 academic staff, divided into five academic subject groups. In addition, we support 150 adjunct staff, and 70 research students and postdoctoral research staff.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Graduate Teaching Fellow in Computer Science will play an important role as part of a team incorporating the Head of Department or Subject Group Leader, programme leader, module leaders, the professional, administrative and technical staff (if applicable), the Dean of School and the Associate Deans of School. You will be expected to contribute to teaching in Computer Science with a specific emphasis on:
The Graduate Teaching Fellow in Computer Science will contribute to teaching, learning and assessment. This will include assisting with the marking of assessments. You will be expected to attend the Module Boards of Examiners if applicable, and attend, and contribute to, Programme Academic Experience Group meetings Programme Team Meetings and other subject group meetings and working groups as required.
The Graduate Teaching Fellow in Computer Science will also support pastoral, academic support and engagement activities for home and international students within the department.
Skills and experience required
You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and may have relevant teaching experience at HE level. You will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established teaching programmes and have an appreciation of the educational needs of students.
You will have excellent organisation, planning and IT skills and the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. The ability to communicate effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues and the ability to deal with conflicting demands and priorities is essential.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a good honour’s degree or equivalent level qualification in the discipline or a related discipline or equivalent experience
