Flexible Working

  • We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis (e.g. job share), despite the position being advertised as full-time.

WMG at the University of Warwick is undertaking a significant investment in Research & Teaching academic recruitment across several strategically important growth areas. As part of this coordinated campaign, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Battery Materials and Cells to join our internationally recognised Battery Materials and Cells (BMAC) research group.

WMG is a global leader in applied research and innovation, and BMAC delivers world-leading research across the full battery circular economy, spanning battery materials discovery, scale-up synthesis, electrode development, prototype cell manufacture, characterisation, and recycling. Working closely with academic, industrial, and international partners, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of next-generation battery technologies and sustainable energy storage solutions.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact research, collaborative funding activity, postgraduate supervision, and research-informed teaching within one of the UK’s most dynamic battery research environments. The successful candidate will work across WMG’s unique end-to-end battery platform, leveraging world-class facilities, multidisciplinary expertise, and strong industrial partnerships to develop innovative solutions that address major global challenges in energy storage and electrification.

Appointments will be considered at either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level depending on experience, research profile, leadership trajectory, and funding track record.

About You

You will hold a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, alongside expertise aligned to battery technologies, electrochemical energy storage, or advanced materials research.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of:

  • lithium-ion, sodium-ion, lithium-sulfur, or solid-state batteries
  • battery materials and electrochemistry
  • advanced characterisation techniques
  • electrode and cell development
  • battery manufacturing and scale-up
  • modelling and simulation
  • AI or data-driven approaches for materials discovery
  • recycling and sustainable battery technologies

You should demonstrate the ability, or strong potential, to develop internationally recognised research through publications, collaborative projects, funding activity, and engagement with academic and industrial partners.

Candidates applying at Associate Professor level should demonstrate an established research profile and evidence of academic leadership, while Assistant Professor candidates should demonstrate strong potential to develop an independent and impactful research trajectory within a collaborative environment.

We particularly welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary working, industrial collaboration, and translating research into meaningful real-world impact.
