Purpose of this role

The Disability & Wellbeing Manager leads UCES’s student disability support and wellbeing provision. This strategic and operational role ensures students receive high‑quality, inclusive support, oversees disability services, and drives wellbeing strategies that enhance the student experience.

The postholder plays a key role in embedding a positive, inclusive culture across UCES.

Reports to: Senior Student Services Manager

Location: University Campus of Esports; London

Key Responsibilities

Student Disability & Wellbeing (Core Focus)

  • Lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of disability and wellbeing support services for students.
  • Oversee assessment processes, support plans and reasonable adjustments for students with additional needs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, safeguarding requirements and sector best practice.
  • Monitor student engagement, retention and wellbeing trends, implementing early intervention strategies where appropriate.
  • Work closely with academic teams to ensure inclusive teaching practices and appropriate support mechanisms.
  • Maintain oversight of wellbeing cases, ensuring appropriate support, referrals and accurate record‑keeping.

Culture, Inclusion & Engagement

  • Champion an inclusive, supportive culture for all students.
  • Lead or contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives across UCES.
  • Embed wellbeing and inclusion into institutional policies, practices and day‑to‑day operations.
  • Support cross‑departmental collaboration to strengthen community, belonging and engagement.

Leadership & Management

  • Line manage the Disability & Wellbeing Officer, providing guidance, supervision and professional development.
  • Ensure high‑quality, consistent service delivery across all wellbeing and disability provision.
  • Manage resources effectively and contribute to planning related to wellbeing services and initiatives.

Collaboration & Institutional Contribution

  • Work closely with Student Services and Academic teams to ensure a joined‑up approach to student support.
  • Contribute to institutional reporting, strategy development and quality assurance processes.
  • Represent UCES in relevant internal and external meetings, networks and events.

Person Specification 

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (e.g., Psychology, Education, Health or related field preferable but not essential).
  • Strong understanding of disability support, mental health and student wellbeing in an educational context.
  • Experience developing and implementing support strategies and reasonable adjustments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree or professional qualification in a related field.
  • Experience within Higher Education or Further Education.
  • Knowledge of the esports, gaming or creative industries.

Experience

  • Experience in a disability, wellbeing or student support role within education.
  • Experience managing complex student cases and safeguarding concerns.
  • Experience organising wellbeing initiatives or events.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
