We are seeking an experienced and strategic HR leader to join the University of Cambridge as Head of HR Policy. 

This is a senior role responsible for leading the development and delivery of the University's HR policy framework, alongside key strategic projects and cultural change programmes.

About the role 

You will provide strategic leadership for HR policy across the University, ensuring policies are inclusive, evidence-based, and aligned with legal requirements and institutional priorities.  

Acting as the University's senior specialist on industrial relations, you will lead engagement and negotiation with trade unions and work closely with senior leaders and HR colleagues to deliver cohesive and effective people solutions.

You will also lead a specialist team, oversee policy-related projects and programmes, and play a key role in driving cultural change to enhance the employee experience. 

What you will be doing 

  • Leading the development and continuous improvement of HR policy across the University
  • Providing expert advice on complex policy, change and employment matters
  • Leading engagement and negotiation with trade unions
  • Overseeing strategic HR projects and programmes
  • Using data and insight to inform policy and decision-making
  • Leading and developing a high-performing HR Policy team 

We are looking for someone who has 

  • Significant senior level HR experience in a complex, unionised organisation
  • Strong track record of developing and implementing HR policy and strategic initiatives
  • Experience leading cultural change and influencing at senior level
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of employment law and industrial relations
  • Experience managing and developing teams
