Applications are invited for the permanent position of Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology in the School of Medicine at University of Galway. 

The Discipline of Bacteriology contributes to teaching undergraduate students in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, midwifery, and health sciences.   Research within the Discipline of Bacteriology is coordinated through the Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbial Ecology (ARME) Group and is focused on antimicrobial-resistance, food and water borne infection, emerging contaminants, the wider societal impact of infection, space biology and One Health.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology or closely related Discipline. Experience of research in the areas of antimicrobial resistance, microbial genomics and One Health is essential.  Working as part of a team, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, both in the classroom, on-line and clinical settings, curriculum development and assessment. S/he will teach medical microbiology, infection prevention and control and aspects of One Health across appropriate programmes in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and in other Colleges within the University as appropriate. The successful candidate is expected to develop a world-class research programme aligned with the research activities of the Discipline of Bacteriology and the ARME group. The appointee will be expected to supervise postgraduate research students, attain external grant funding, establish successful national and international collaborations, and disseminate research findings through high quality peer-reviewed journals and high impact conferences.  The successful candidate will also support the outreach and communication programme of the Discipline of Bacteriology, the ARME Group, and the Ryan Institute Centre for One Health.

Salary: €84,700 - €120,029 p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
