About us:

MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation, the LMS has a collaborative working culture and a new state-of-the-art building based in the heart of West London in the Hammersmith Hospital Campus (W12).

About the role:

The Roving Researcher will provide experimental support for scientific activities across the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS). In particular, the Roving Researcher will support specific research projects when a member of staff goes on long-term leave (e.g. parental or sick leave). Whenever the need arises, the Roving Researcher will divide their time to cover 2-3 different projects at the same time. This is a unique and exciting role within the MRC LMS that allows you to get involved in a wide range of innovative research across the Institute. This includes research with a strong focus on molecular biology, metabolism, and epigenetics, and is home to a range of model organisms (mice, Drosophila, C. elegans, yeast) as well as extensive work with human cells. You will have the opportunity to learn new and cutting-edge laboratory techniques and enjoy a diverse and rich research culture.

More information on the roving researcher, recently featured in Nature: Could roving researchers help address the challenge of taking parental leave?

About you:

This post would suit an experienced, highly organised researcher, with a solid background in an area of biology complementary to the LMS, yet who is still keen to develop their technical skills further. The ideal candidate would be someone who enjoys wet-lab work, who is able to work both independently and as part of a team and who is comfortable meeting and interacting with new people. To work between multiple groups, excellent communication skills are essential.

What we offer

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer defined benefit pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement (30 days plus 2.5 privilege days & 8 bank holidays), family friendly policies (6 months full pay maternity & adoption leave), a range of shopping/travel discounts, access to our Employee Assistant Programme Scheme, Health and Wellbeing Support and a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
