The Department of Law at the European University Institute (EUI) invites applications for a

Chair in Private Law, Power, and the Economy

The Department seeks to attract candidates with a distinguished record in private law, with a particular focus on the interplay between legal frameworks, socio-economic structures, and power dynamics at all political levels, local, national, European and global. The position emphasises scholarly excellence and the ability to engage with the transnational dimensions of private law in a changing socio, economic, and technological landscape. The Department values diversity and sophistication in methodology. We encourage applications from scholars who examine private law through original perspectives and diverse analytical lenses, including but not limited to: comparative private law, socio-legal studies, legal theory, doctrinal analysis, political economy, law and economics, empirical methods, normative, critical, historical, and cultural approaches. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary engagement and the ability to provide rigorous supervision and teach methods seminars to PhD researchers.
