About The Role

Technician
This part-time (0.5 FTE) post is available from 01/07/2026 on a permanent basis.

The starting salary will be from £30,628 to £31,736 per annum pro rata on Grade D, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

The University wishes to recruit a part time Technician to take a key role in Technical Strategy & Operations, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (Biosciences). The Technician position primarily supports the second-floor Bioscience research laboratories based in the Geoffrey Pope building on the Streatham campus. https://biosciences.exeter.ac.uk./. The role presents the opportunity to gain skills and be a part of a thriving community in a busy and complex research environment. The second-floor laboratories cover a range of biological areas including molecular biology, plant pathogens, cell culture, cell biology, microbiology, physiological and various microscopy techniques. We also support Defra work, provide health and safety advice, arrange equipment maintenance, order laboratory consumables and equipment and are familiar with key equipment within the laboratory (training can be provided).

About The Division

Research Division
The Research Division is a key enabler to the delivery of the University's Strategy 2030, the Research and Impact Strategy, successful REF performances, and generating external research income, by:

  • Supporting the full research project lifecycle from inception to impact.
  • Offering research infrastructure support.
  • Providing leadership for the Exeter Doctoral College.
  • Delivering joint strategic, policy and planning support to the University and Faculties.

The division consists of four service groups: Doctoral College; Research Services; Research Software and Analytics; and Technical Strategy and Operations.

Technical Strategy and Operations is a centralised team of research and teaching technical staff across the university delivering our institutional technical strategy working in specialist areas, leading on technical infrastructure, equipment and facilities. In addition, the group undertakes and support research and teaching and promoting compliance and best practice, in the labs, studios, workshops, and field.
