Background Checks

  • If you are included on a (child) barred list, you will be breaking the law by applying for this role.

This role provides an opportunity for an experienced practitioner to lead the provision of a subject specialist input to the University’s highly regarded Initial Teacher Education programmes. The successful candidate will be able to shape the subject pedagogy of beginning teachers on our courses, both local and international.

The role will also provide opportunities to contribute to the wider course provision through teaching on the Professional Enquiry and Professional Practice modules, marking of academic work and selection of PGCE applicants.

All colleagues in the Centre for Teacher Education participate in a regular programme of professional development and peer learning. The post also provides wider development opportunities across the University.

About You

The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching either Geography, Music, Drama, Business Studies, Design Technology or Social Sciences at the secondary age range and an ability to model good teaching to others. Experience of mentoring and teacher education in a school or university context would demonstrate the complex skills needed in the core aspects of this work.

We would welcome candidates who would be able to take on the key roles quickly, but who are also looking for an opportunity to learn and develop as a teacher educator. The role requires a willingness to develop a strong understanding of research in education and to apply this to the development of professional teaching skills and knowledge.

Candidates will need to demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both in university and as a visitor in school to quickly establish the confidence of students and colleagues in a range of settings. The role also requires strong time management skills and self-managing a complex portfolio of work allocation.
