The role

The Year 3 OSCE Lead is responsible for the academic leadership, design, delivery, and quality assurance of the Year 3 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for the MBChB programme.

What will you be doing?

You will lead the design, delivery, and quality of the Year 3 Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), a key milestone in assessing students’ clinical skills and readiness for further training.

This is a practical and rewarding leadership role where you will shape a large, multi-site clinical assessment and directly influence student learning. You’ll ensure the OSCE is fair, consistent, and aligned with national standards, while providing meaningful feedback to support student development.

Working with a collaborative and supportive team, you will:

  • Design and update the OSCE, including creating and reviewing clinical stations
  • Lead planning and oversee delivery across all sites and exam sittings
  • Train and support examiners and simulated patients
  • Help students prepare through clear guidance, briefings, and learning resources
  • Monitor quality and use feedback and data to improve the assessment
  • Manage any issues, concerns, or appeals in a fair and transparent way
  • Contribute to exam boards and work with external examiners

You’ll play a central role in ensuring a high-quality, inclusive assessment experience that supports students as they progress through the programme.

Experience of clinical or OSCE-style assessments in undergraduate medical education

The ability to design and deliver structured assessments and maintain high standards

Strong organisational skills and the confidence to lead complex activity across multiple sites

Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and students

A commitment to fairness, inclusion, and supporting all learners to succeed

You must hold a primary medical qualification and be eligible for GMC registration. Experience in OSCE leadership, station writing, or working with assessment data would be an advantage.
