Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford (with a College Lectureship at Worcester College)
Fixed-term, 5 years from September 2026
Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) seeks an outstanding early career academic in German to join the College as the inaugural Nicky Manby–Linda Montgomery Career Development Fellow in German Culture from 1770. This five-year post offers an excellent opportunity to combine postdoctoral research with undergraduate teaching in one of Oxford’s leading Modern Languages communities.
The Fellow will provide up to eight hours of tutorial and class teaching per week during term across a range of undergraduate German language, literature, culture and film papers, including Modern German Literature (1770–present), translation, prescribed authors, and dissertation supervision. The postholder will also contribute to admissions, outreach, graduate advising, and the wider intellectual life of LMH and Worcester College.
Applicants should hold a completed doctorate in German or a closely related field and demonstrate strong academic achievement, clear research potential, and enthusiasm for tutorial teaching. Candidates should have a well-developed research project to pursue during the Fellowship and a commitment to contributing to an inclusive academic community.
The post is available from September/October 2026 and carries a salary on the University Grade 7 scale (from £39,424 p.a.), together with common table rights, a £1,500 annual research allowance, office accommodation, and a term of sabbatical after six terms in post.
Application deadline: Noon (UK time), Wednesday 24 June 2026.
Interviews: 7–8 July 2026.
