We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Sociology (Teaching and Scholarship). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Department of Sociology, School of Social Sciences. You will join a dynamic and inclusive academic environment with a strong commitment to student‑centred learning, equality and social responsibility.

This is a fixed‑term post for 48 months, starting 1st October 2026, available at Grade 6.5 only.

You will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high‑quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Sociology
  • Convening SOCY10402 Inequalities in Contemporary British Society
  • Contributing to teaching on race, ethnicity, intersecting inequalities and qualitative research methods
  • Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and providing academic advising
  • Undertaking appropriate administrative, academic service and pastoral duties

About you

We encourage applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You should demonstrate:

Essential criteria

  • A completed PhD (or equivalent) in Sociology or a cognate discipline
  • Demonstrable expertise in the sociology of race and ethnicity and intersecting inequalities
  • Ability to teach qualitative sociological research methods at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Experience delivering high‑quality, research‑informed teaching in Sociology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to the student experience

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience convening undergraduate and/or postgraduate course units
  • Experience supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate dissertations
