We wish to appoint a College Lecturer in Spanish, initially for a twelve-month period, with the possibility of renewal. The role will involve teaching at the following colleges: Pembroke College, St Hilda’s College, New College, and University College.
The Lecturer’s stint will be twelve hours per week for the colleges or the benefit of the colleges, inclusive of time spent on administration:
You will be involved in the teaching, academic administration and pastoral care of students under the direction of the Modern Languages Fellows and/or senior tutors in the student’s other subject (English, European and Middle Eastern Languages, History, Linguistics, and Philosophy) in the case of students doing Joint Schools. The post-holder will also take on pastoral responsibility for students on their year abroad, set vacation work and college exams and participate in admissions, as well as having general pastoral oversight for the Spanish cohort in years 2-4 across the colleges.
Language teaching will be done in small classes (around 4-6) and literature in single or paired tutorials. You will be required to provide teaching for an average of eleven hours contact time per week during the eight weeks of Oxford’s three terms. You will be expected to set and mark weekly essays, set and mark College exams and participate in undergraduate admissions.
The salary for the teaching will be in the range £33,810- £37,338 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. You will have access to a teaching allowance of £875 per annum, use of a room for teaching, and will also be able to take some lunches and dinners free of charge in the colleges throughout the year. All salary figures are 2025/26 rates and are subject to annual uplift.
