The multi-faith Chaplaincy team at King’s College London works across all five campuses of this world-renowned University, based in central and south London, which aims to deliver exceptional education and world-leading research. King’s is committed to creating positive and sustainable change in our local and global communities through outstanding education, impactful research, and genuine service to society.  Located within the Dean’s Office (see  www.kcl.ac.uk/dean), the Chaplaincy plays an important role in the field of student welfare, in collaboration with colleagues in other areas where applicable, and also provides a support service to King’s staff as needed. 

About the role

The Jewish Chaplain and Advisor on Antisemitism is a dual-focus role designed to provide holistic support to the Jewish community at King’s. Simultaneously with providing appropriate pastoral care to students and staff of all backgrounds, they will serve as advisor to the University, providing expert guidance on identifying and addressing antisemitism, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment that upholds both the wellbeing of Jewish members and the University’s commitment to academic freedom and freedom of expression.

The Chaplain and Advisor will provide pastoral care and community leadership with a specific focus on the unique needs of the Jewish community, including supporting and facilitating Jewish religious life across campuses and advising on “inclusive adjustments” for religious festivals and Shabbat.

The Chaplain and Advisor will advise the Dean and colleagues in Student Services and other areas, acting as the primary subject matter expert for senior leadership within the University on contemporary and historical antisemitism, and will provide briefings for leadership and attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders to address emerging challenges or specific incidents. 

The Chaplain and Advisor will strengthen the sense of belonging for Jewish students and staff by helping them build meaningful links with the wider multi-faith and University-wide communities. They will also build and maintain strong partnerships with external Jewish agencies, communal bodies, and communal security organisations.

The Chaplain and Advisor will work with the University’s EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) team to ensure that anti-antisemitism efforts are integrated into the broader University-wide inclusion strategy, and will help to source, develop, and oversee the delivery of high-quality antisemitism awareness training for staff, students, and student-facing services (such as Security, Admissions, and Student Support). They will also provide guidance on maintaining a cohesive community that respects the interplay between the safety of Jewish staff/students and the legal protections for academic freedom and freedom of expression.

This is a part time post (14 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
