We are part of the Students & Education Directorate, a collection of wide-ranging professional services in place to support King’s students and their education. As a directorate we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a coherent and seamless student experience and effective administrative processes, working closely with King’s faculties to do so.

About the role:

This is a rewarding opportunity for candidates looking to work with students, researchers and graduates to develop their career management skills. This could be through in person or online workshops, one to one coaching appointments or designing digital resources. You’ll work with home and international clients studying the full range of academic subjects. The ability to proactively build excellent stakeholder relationships across King’s and beyond is key. You’ll be skilled at building rapport with a wide range of people and wish to utilise your excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to deliver a high-quality service.

We encourage applications from candidates who have experience from both within and outside of the Higher Education sector where they can demonstrate the skills and experience needed to succeed in this role.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) and you will receive a maternity cover contract until January 2027, or whenever the substantive postholder returns.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Higher Education degree
  2. Substantive work experience in a HE careers service as a qualified careers consultant sufficient to have a sound knowledge and provide direct experience of career management and career development issues relevant to students and graduates.
  3. Evidence of motivation to work supporting Higher Education students or graduates to achieve professional success.
  4. Ability to establish, maintain and proactively develop effective professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. This includes engaging confidently with senior academic staff and strategic partners to deliver initiatives aligned with institutional objectives.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly and use effective coaching and questioning techniques. The demonstrable ability to engage small and large audiences.
  6. Ability to interpret qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate, evidence and improve the impact of employability activities. Demonstrable ability to produce clear evaluative reports and evidence-based recommendations to support service development.
  7. Proven ability to initiate and deliver high-impact projects while effectively managing a daily workload, monitoring progress against objectives, and responding flexibly to changing institutional priorities and stakeholder needs.
  8. Knowledge of how digital technologies and online careers platforms can be used to enhance student career planning, employability development and service engagement within a Higher Education careers context.
