About the Role
The post holder will provide contract administration, legal, quality assurance and contractual expertise in support of Queen Mary’s research and commercial partnership activities. The post holder will lead on and collaborate with the legal contracts manager with respect to a range of contractual, legal and administrative services, including the drafting, negotiation and preparation of a wide variety of contracts for research, collaborations, consultancies, material transfers, services, and studentship arrangements, offering advice on legal risks and performing quality assurance checks on contracts. The post-holder will work closely with commercial partners, providing a high level of client service to support and develop research contracts including the negotiation of commercial, regulatory, Intellectual Property, data protection and University policy terms. They will encourage and ensure uniformity of practice and standards with regards to authorisations, sign-off, legal templates, updating of standard templates, reporting and contract management.
About You
The post holder will possess a legal qualification or relevant experience of contract drafting and negotiation, and have an in-depth working knowledge and understanding of the associated risks and legal issues.
About the Department
The Business Development team, part of Queen Mary’s Research Services Directorate, provides legal and contracts support for commercial and non-commercial research agreements and collaborations. The team works with industry partners, charities, government bodies and third sector organizations to enable the University’s research and innovation activities.
The post holder will work closely with the Legal Contracts Manager and Business Development Managers to ensure a high-quality service provision to the University for industry engagement and partnerships. This role will be crucial in providing support to the Business Development team who are responsible for developing academic partnerships with research councils, charities, government, third sector organizations and industry. They will provide specialist contract support, advice and feasibility management on projects undertaken by the team involving industry and other external organizations.
