About the role:
The Patient Experience Research Centre (PERC)
PERC is a core facility of the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) responsible for implementing the Imperial BRC PPIEP Strategy across its 14 research themes as well as conducting research on patient experience including people’s experiences of taking part in health research. PERC is a multidisciplinary team comprising mixed methods’ researchers, anthropologists and public involvement practitioners which undertakes participatory research, research on research and provides advice, support and training on public involvement in research. PERC’s vision is to bring communities and professionals together to improve health research and our mission is to advocate, promote and support participatory approaches to improve health research.
Community voices and priorities are integral to shaping our health research to ensure it meets the needs of those it serves. PERC is recruiting four new posts to strengthen our work in public involvement and patient experience research. This Community Engagement Officer role is part of this and will allow us to expand our community involvement and engagement activities across seven boroughs in North West London to build trust and facilitate this involvement.
What you would be doing:
You will coordinate and implement community engagement and involvement activities in the boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Westminster (in particular those who may be underrepresented and under-served in research). These activities aim to build trust, reciprocal relationships, demystify research and Imperial in order to encourage the inclusion of communities in public involvement and participation in Imperial health research. You will also monitor and measure the impact of these activities on both Imperial and the communities alongside working with internal and external stakeholders including Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
What we are looking for:
You will be a people person with the ability to be flexible in your approach. You will have a degree or equivalent experience of working in public/community involvement in research and engaging with members of the public/communities from diverse backgrounds and have understanding of the possible challenges involved.
You will have strong relationship building skills, be a great communicator and be able to manage competing priorities.
What we can offer you:
