We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Pandemic Sciences Institute. You will be working on the Pandemic Preparedness Analytical Capacity and funding Tracking programme (Pandemic PACT) within the Pandemic Sciences Institute Policy and Practice Research Group. This is an exciting role within an established team, where you will provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, interns, PhD students, and/or project volunteers. Academic oversight, supervision and line management of the post will be provided by Professor Alice Norton, Head of the Policy and Practice Research Group.
Pandemic PACT was established in response to notable weaknesses in traditional funding and research coordination structures exposed by the COVID-19 health emergency. Building on the work undertaken during the pandemic by GloPID-R (activity within the research group) and the UK Collaborative for Development Research (UKCDR) through the COVID-19 Research Project Tracker, Pandemic PACT has been designed as a prospective funding tracking and analysis tool ready to respond to any emerging pathogen of epidemic or pandemic potential. Its aim is to track research funding investments, provide essential information that major funding decision-makers can tap into, and improve collaboration and coherence of future research responses to epidemics and pandemics that are aligned with global and regional needs.
You will be responsible for managing your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials including conducting literature reviews and living reviews of funding data. You will also prepare working theories and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining theories as appropriate. You will contribute ideas for new research projects and for generating research income, and present detailed research proposals to senior researchers.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a related topic, such as medicine, public health, epidemiology, infectious diseases, microbiology, One Health, or biomedicine, together with relevant experience. You must also possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes including quantitative analysis and statistics. You must also have the ability to manage your own academic research and associated activities.
Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict the documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 31 July 2027 and is funded by the Wellcome.
Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday 6 July 2026 will be considered. Please quote 186661 on all correspondence.
