About the role:

The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) is seeking an experienced and innovative Assistant Professor to contribute to the development of its education portfolio, with a particular focus on the Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP).

Reporting to the Co-Head of the Department of Education, the postholder will play a key role in advancing teaching, learning, and professional development across the Institute. Drawing on expertise in pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment, and educational research, they will contribute to the delivery and enhancement of STEP and other educational programmes, while supporting the Institute’s commitment to high-quality, research-informed practice in diverse international contexts.

The role combines teaching, supervision, scholarship, and academic leadership, offering the opportunity to work collaboratively with faculty, students, partner institutions, and educational stakeholders to ensure that IIS programmes remain responsive, innovative, and learner-centred.

This is an exciting opportunity for an academic with expertise in education and/or teacher education to contribute to a globally respected institution at the intersection of educational practice, Islamic studies, and professional development.

What we’re looking for:

  • A doctoral degree (PhD/EdD) in Education, Higher Education, or a closely related field.
  • Professional recognition such as FHEA, SFHEA, or equivalent, alongside a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Significant experience teaching in Higher Education, with a strong record of student achievement and high-quality teaching practice.
  • Expertise in learning theory, pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment, educational research, and faculty development.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, mentoring, and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse academic and professional communities.
  • A strong commitment to educational excellence, equity, inclusion, and learner-centred practice.
