Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £45,943 to with potential progression once in post to £77,196

Role Summary

We are seeking a Clinical Teaching Fellow to join Birmingham Medical School at an exciting time of curriculum review and development. You will work within a well-established team to support the delivery of the undergraduate MBChB programme, with a focus on teaching, assessment, and student support.

This role provides clinical input to the medical programme and involves collaboration with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance teaching quality and student experience.

• Support subject leads in developing and ensuring content is appropriate
• Facilitate small group teaching to augment a reduced clinical placement programme
• Contribute to low stakes assessment and formative feedback
• Contribute to summative assessments

You will also be supported to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Education for Health Professionals if not already held.

Main Duties

Under supervision, you will:

• Plan and deliver teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate, and CPD programmes
• Prepare teaching materials and contribute to module design
• Support student projects, assessments, and examinations
• Participate in teaching-related administration
• Engage in professional development to enhance teaching practice
• Contribute to wider School activities, including public engagement and knowledge exchange

Person Specification

Essential:

• Primary medical qualification (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent)
• Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards
• Hold and maintain GMC registration
• Experience of working in the NHS
• Ability to teach undergraduate medical students
• Knowledge of GMC Outcomes for Doctors and the Medical Licensing Assessment
• Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Confidence using IT for teaching
• Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice
• Willingness to undertake a postgraduate qualification in medical education

Desirable:

• Postgraduate medical qualification (e.g. MRCP, MRCS)
• Teaching or medical education qualification
• Experience developing teaching materials or simulation-based learning
• Experience in audit or research
• Familiarity with digital or web-based learning design
