Duties of the Role
We are seeking an electrical craftsperson to work on electrical systems in accordance with the University of Essex LV policy. The post holder will be expected to diagnose and repair faults in both standard and complex electrical installations, plant, and equipment, and will undertake inspection and testing of both standard and complex LV electrical circuits and systems in compliance with the current BS 7671 Edition. We are looking to appoint both Competent Persons (CP) and Authorised Persons (AP) as part of this vacancy. Part-qualified individuals with an NVQ Level 2 (or nearing completion) in Electrical Installations who wish to progress further will also be considered for the role at Grade 5 level on the salary scale.
The post holder will be expected to install new plant, equipment, and services, and will be responsible for carrying out the full planned and preventative maintenance (PPM) programme. Additionally, the post holder will work from manuals, instructions, drawings, and specifications without direct supervision.
Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will have completed a recognised qualification or training in accordance with the current BS 7671 Edition wiring regulations and will hold, at minimum, an NVQ Level 2 in Electrical Installations.
It is essential that the successful candidate can demonstrate experience in the maintenance of commercial, industrial, and domestic electrical supplies. It is advantageous if experience in installation can also be evidenced. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively and be willing to learn new working methods, showing flexibility where required.
Hours of work are 36 hours per week, to be worked over a shift system of 7am – 7pm. Shift (other than 0800 to 1600) and Weekend working is expected to be 1 in 6 but some flexibility is required. The post holder will be expected to cover the ‘on call’ rota, which is anticipated to be 1 week in 12.
