The School of Computer Science and Mathematics within the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science seeks to appoint at Senior Lecturer or Senior Teaching Fellow level in the field of Software Engineering. Whilst this is a broad area, we would particularly welcome applicants who have experience in cloud computing, data science, software design, software development, artificial intelligence (agentic development), secure software development, mobile or web development, embedded systems, software testing or databases.
The role will require delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the School and the specific development of the area of software engineering to ensure our curriculum is up-to-date and meeting the needs of employers and applicants. You will also be expected to make broad contributions to the academic work of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics in the fields of computing and computer science. In addition, you may contribute to the development and delivery of outreach and engagement initiatives as well as interdisciplinary project areas. You are likely to have a background in software development and/or computer science with a PhD in a related subject and/or relevant professional experience from industry.
Appointment will be made at Grade 8 based on the experience of suitable applicants.
The university has created a new academic career pathway for staff in academic roles. The structure focuses on career pathways, these being:
These pathways have been designed to ensure that academic strengths whether in research, scholarship, teaching, the wider student experience, leadership or innovation and engagement, are all appropriately recognised, developed, valued, and rewarded.
They reflect parity in progression and reward in recognition of these contributions, and they enable individuals to focus on and be supported in their professional development and practice during the course of their career.
You should apply against the job description that they feel best reflects their strengths and expertise. On appointment, assignment to the appropriate pathway and job description will be based on the successful candidate’s experience and academic strengths.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Henry Forsyth (School Director), H.Forsyth@ljmu.ac.uk or Jan Lunn (Subject Leader), J.Lunn@ljmu.ac.uk.
