The role

The School is currently seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Law who demonstrates a commitment to the highest standards of legal education to join our thriving academic community. The post is open-ended, on Career Pathway 3 of the University of Bristol’s academic pathways and will be appointed at Profile Level b or Profile Level c (Lecturer, grade J/Lecturer grade K), depending on experience. The successful applicant will contribute fully to the life of the School and Faculty through teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as supervising research students.

Embracing excellence in all its forms, the School welcomes applications from those with relevant practice and/or practice focused teaching experience in the area of Corporate Law and the successful candidate will also be expected to offer the ability to teach at least one foundational subject.

The post is available from 1st September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The interview is planned to take place on 20th July 2026.

There is an expectation that this role is campus-based.

What will you be doing?

The role holder will deliver lectures and seminars on the undergraduate LLB and/or the postgraduate LLM programmes in the Corporate Law Field in addition to foundational teaching in core units if so required.  The setting of coursework, examinations and/or alternative forms of assessment, formative and summative marking, providing oral and written feedback are also key responsibilities of the role along with encouraging students to engage in critical analysis, contributing to curriculum development, supervising students and contributing to scholarly activities of the school.

Additional responsibilities for grade K appointments will also include design and teaching of undergraduate and/or postgraduate units and identifying where revisions of existing units are required, planning appropriate changes or new units.   Academic leadership and contribution to the school’s planning of teaching and learning is also an essential element of the role.  

You should apply if

We would like to hear from you if you have relevant professional practice experience in Corporate Law, and/or equivalent teaching experience in practice-focused teaching within the Corporate Law field and have the ability to teach at least one foundational area of the undergraduate syllabus with pertinent experience of effective marking (formative or summative) at degree level or equivalent.

You would also need to possess a good honours degree in law or a law-related subject at undergraduate level and/or a postgraduate degree in law.

Contract type: Open-ended from 01/09/26

Work pattern: Full-time/35 hours per week (part-time considered at a minimum of 3 days per week/0.7 FTE)
