Applications are invited for an indefinite Assistant Professorship in International Political Economy in the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick to start at the beginning of the academic year 2026-27. The appointment will be made at FA7 of the University of Warwick salary scale.

PAIS is home to a vibrant and well-established cluster of IPE scholars.

We are seeking an outstanding researcher and educator whose research and teaching expertise will complement and strengthen our existing profile. We welcome applications from candidates working in any area of IPE, including but not limited to institutions of global economic governance; trade and global value chains; finance and monetary relations; households and social reproduction; development and inequality; energy and resource politics; technology and digital economies; business power and the politics of multinational corporations; and the political economy of security and geopolitical competition.

We welcome applications from candidates whose research engages with contemporary transformations in the global political economy and who can contribute to advancing innovative and/or critical approaches to the field. This may include work on gender, race, colonialism and postcolonialism, social reproduction and care, and sustainability and just transitions. We are a methodologically pluralist department and welcome all different approaches to the study of IPE.

The successful candidate will join PAIS’s International Political Economy research cluster. They will need to demonstrate a strong research trajectory and the ability to contribute to high-quality teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. They will be expected to develop and deliver modules on IPE, and to supervise student dissertations and research.

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of producing high-quality, nationally recognised outputs and show clear progress towards an internationally excellent research profile. They will be expected to produce high-quality research outputs in leading journals and presses, to pursue competitive bids for external research funding, and to demonstrate a commitment to generating impact beyond the academy

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to design and teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in IPE. They will also have the opportunity to help shape our curriculum by offering modules specifically related to the study of IPE. Additionally, they will support the supervision of dissertations at UG and PGT levels.

They will demonstrate a track record of, or reflective engagement with, advancing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the workplace, including efforts to promote gender and racial equality. A demonstrable commitment to inclusive teaching practices—particularly in relation to supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds, including those with disabilities and the implementation of reasonable adjustments—is essential. Experience with decolonising the curriculum and anti-racist, intersectional, or other critical pedagogical approaches is highly desirable.
