Background of Role

Lead our innovative and awarding winning Policing and Applied Security team to provide high quality and industry responsive undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, Continuing Professional Development, and collaborative provision (UK and TNE), including the Police Education Consortium.

Canterbury Christ Church University is seeking an experienced Head of Subject to join the School of Business, Law and Policing. Combining significant higher education experience with senior-level experience from the policing or security sector, you will lead the policing and applied security portfolio, driving excellence in education, research, knowledge exchange, and external engagement. You will have a proven track record of developing industry partnerships, manage contractual arrangements, and identify opportunities for growth, particularly within the evolving landscape of UK police education and training. The Head of Subject will oversee the delivery of a sustainable, high-quality portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional requirements (e.g. Office for Students (OfS), College of Policing (CoP)). Across all areas of activity, you will champion equity and inclusion, promote excellence in research, learning, teaching and innovation and foster a culture that promotes wellbeing, development and success.

How will you work?

We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible. This role is based in Canterbury, with an on-campus presence expected. Travel to locations specific to the portfolio, such as the Police Education Consortium (e.g. London, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Kent) and possible international travel to our TNE collaborative partners (e.g. Netherlands) may be required.   

Best practice for this role is to be on campus at least 3 days per week, with ‘on campus’ inclusive of days travelling for work related purposes.

Additional Information

Due to the nature of work undertaken within the Police Education Consortium, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate and maintain good character throughout their employment. Appointment to the role will be subject to the successful completion of the relevant police vetting and background checks.

The Head of Subject role is appointed at Principal Lecturer grade. Applicants who currently hold the title of Professor should indicate in their application that they wish to be considered for appointment at Professorial level.
