Assistant Professor in Computer Science (5 posts)

Maastricht University - Faculty of Science & Engineering

Welcome to Maastricht University!

Do you want to educate/shape the next generation of computer scientists? At the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) at Maastricht University, we are investing in the next phase of our Bachelor's programme in Computer Science. We are looking for five Assistant Professors who are willing to contribute to the development of a young programme in which educational quality, programme coherence, and student experience are strategic priorities, while maintaining and developing their research line within the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS).

The Bachelor's programme in Computer Science is a young and ambitious programme with strong foundations and clear potential for further growth. Over the coming years, we want to take the programme to the next level: by strengthening core teaching, improving project-centred learning, broadening the elective portfolio, and creating a learning environment in which students feel challenged, supported, and proud to belong.

To achieve this, we are looking for five new colleagues who bring both strong academic expertise and a genuine commitment to education. As our new assistant professor you are able to contribute to teaching from day one and you care about curriculum development and student learning. At the same time you also want to connect strong research expertise to high-quality teaching, and build your academic profile within a strong and interdisciplinary computing department.

Our ideal candidate has expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Computer systems
  • High-performance computing
  • Programming languages
  • AI for programming and software engineering
  • Post-quantum security
  • Embedded systems

What you do

  • Teach and coordinate courses, skills training, tutorials, and project-centred learning activities in the Bachelor's programme in Computer Science
  • Help improve curriculum alignment, student guidance, and the overall quality of the programme
  • Develop and maintain an active research line within your field of expertise
  • Contribute to the research activities, collaborations, and scholarly profile of DACS

What you bring

Do you recognise yourself in the following?

  • You have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • You have clear expertise and a strong track record in at least one of the following areas: computer systems, high-performance computing, programming languages, AI for programming and software engineering, post-quantum security, or embedded systems
  • You have a genuine passion for education and a proven track record in teaching in higher education
  • You have an active research profile, or clear potential to develop one further, in a field relevant to one of the vacancy profiles
  • You are motivated to connect your research to education
  • You have an excellent command of English and thrive in an international academic setting
  • You have interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and in acquiring competitive research funding

What we offer

At Maastricht University, you'll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • An 18-month contract (1,0 fte) with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4728,00 and €7297,00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
  • Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
  • Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
  • A close-knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
  • A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
  • An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
