About the role
Would you like to bring your extensive knowledge of core chemical engineering subjects to a world-leading chemical engineering department? We are seeking up to two teaching fellows in chemical engineering, who will contribute to the education and development of our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
What you would be doing
The Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/chemical-engineering/) is a world leader in research, education, and innovation. From our advanced teaching laboratories and pilot plant (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/chemical-engineering/the-carbon-capture-pilot-plant/) to our vibrant research centres and industry links, we offer unique opportunities for students and researchers alike. Our alumni go on to make a difference across sectors and nations — proving that what starts in our department reaches far beyond it.
As a teaching fellow, you will contribute directly to chemical engineering teaching, as part of a team currently consisting of 7 teaching fellows and 46 academic staff, educating our cohort of ~600 undergraduate and ~150 taught postgraduate students. These duties will involve direct contributions to lectures, tutorials, practical, coursework organisation, demonstration, assessment, and feedback, as and when appropriate.
What we are looking for
We are seeking exceptional chemical engineering educators, who:
- Have an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering
- Have a PhD in a related discipline, or equivalent industrial experience
- Are capable, confident and articulate communicators and teachers
- Can demonstrate a track record of teaching in chemical engineering in higher education, or delivering training in an industrial setting, at the highest standards
- Have a broad and deep knowledge of core chemical engineering subjects
- Can demonstrate an ability to take initiative, prioritise efficiently and work autonomously
We encourage applicants with expertise in one or more of the following topics: process safety, reaction engineering, chemical engineering design, nuclear chemical engineering or multiphase transport processes, but this is not an essential requirement.
What we can offer you
The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to use science for humanity by sharing your passion and inspiring the next generation.
Gain access to Imperial's top-tier Educational Development Unit, which offers a wide range of tailored educational development services to meet your needs.
Join a diverse and innovative learning and teaching community at an institution that values research-led educational provision.
Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 41 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
As a teaching fellow you have 10 development days to invest on your own development and build your practice skills.
Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
