The School of Natural Sciences, within the Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise, brings together expertise across the biological, chemical and physical sciences. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with experience in reproductive sciences and assisted reproductive technologies, although applications from individuals with related biotechnology specialisms are also welcomed. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing academic team and contribute to, and potentially lead, postgraduate programmes within a developing portfolio focused on advanced and applied biotechnologies. Details of current courses can be found on the School of Natural Sciences pages of the University website.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, you will contribute to, or lead, the delivery, development and enhancement of postgraduate provision within the School. The post holder will help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, contribute to curriculum design and review, and ensure teaching remains responsive to evolving scientific, clinical and industrial priorities. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Reproductive Biotechnology, including Assisted Reproductive Technologies; Reproductive Endocrinology; Stem Cell Science; and biotechnological applications relevant to healthcare, fertility or the life sciences sector. Experience linking biotechnology to clinical practice, industry or healthcare innovation will be a distinct advantage. Candidates should hold a higher degree in a relevant discipline, or possess relevant clinical qualifications and experience, together with teaching or training experience in higher education and/or clinical settings.

The successful applicant will be expected to offer and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation projects that inspire students and provide authentic opportunities for meaningful research. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality teaching and encourage applications from individuals with an up-to-date understanding of effective, engaging and inclusive teaching and learning approaches. Opportunities will be available to develop research interests independently and collaboratively as part of an expanding group of specialists within the School. Candidates who do not already hold an equivalent teaching qualification or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) will be expected to undertake the University’s postgraduate qualification in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

The successful candidate will join a teaching-focused School with a vibrant and active research culture. Academic expertise within the School spans animal behaviour, molecular biology, entomology, marine biology, veterinary science, forensic biology, chemical engineering, surface science and drug discovery, creating excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Based on the University’s main Chester campus, the School benefits from extensive teaching laboratories, preparation rooms, research laboratories, and high-specification seminar and lecture facilities. The campus is located close to the city centre and offers excellent facilities for staff and students. The School also maintains strong links with external organisations including Pathways Intermediates, Chester, Shrewsbury and Telford NHS, and Marches Biogas.

The post holder will report to the Head of the School of Natural Sciences. Applications from candidates wishing to work on a part-time basis are welcome and will be considered. Appointment as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer will be determined by qualifications and experience.
