Background of department

The University’s School of Nursing, Midwifery, Allied and Public Health is the University’s academic and professional home for Nursing and the Allied Health Professions, and for all those interested in improving public health and well-being. We achieve this through our research, and by providing a portfolio of courses and other learning opportunities that are creative, inspirational and empowering, and which develop knowledge, policy and practice. Our research work within the School focuses on the improvement of nursing, health and care services, health and well-being by co-producing solutions in close collaboration with service users and other stakeholders. 

We offer an exciting portfolio of nursing and allied healthcare courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels alongside internationally renowned applied research in implementation and diagnostic practice and policy. The School provides courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels for Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic, Speech & Language Therapy and Operating Department Practice professions. In addition, we offer courses that reflect a Public Health perspective around health promotion, mental health and global public health. The Role

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Diagnostic Radiography academic to join our forward-thinking team in a new role of Principal Lecturer. This is a 1.0 FTE post that comes at an exciting time to provide strategic academic and professional leadership in the delivery and development of our highly respected BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography course, preparing students for professional practice in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to course management leadership, professional leadership to our partners, stakeholders, and professional bodies. You will work closely with the team to advance our teaching, assessment, module leadership, and curriculum development across undergraduate (and potentially postgraduate) provision, with a focus on delivering high-quality, evidence-based education. You will also work within internal teams to support student recruitment, marketing, and ongoing curriculum design and development of our accredited course aligned to HCPC standards, Society of Radiographers guidance and NHS stakeholders' workforce priorities.

In this multifaceted role, the successful candidate will be leading an established teaching team to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals. The role requires a commitment to academic excellence, fostering an environment of innovative learning, and advancing the field of Diagnostic Radiography through impactful research and practice. You will bring specialised knowledge and skills to these critical areas, enriching our courses and contributing to the education of the future Diagnostic Radiography workforce. Your experience will be invaluable in developing curriculum content, guiding research projects, and leading staff in working in these areas. Collaborating with clinical partners, you will take joint responsibility for sourcing clinical placements and expanding current placement resources whilst allocating and supervising students on placements.
