Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent

Job Ref: 030726

The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.

We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.  Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.

Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey is one of the most highly regarded theatre schools in the UK, with a vibrant community of performers, performance makers, creative practitioners and technicians graduating from our wide variety of programmes each year.

We are seeking an experienced teacher of acting who will contribute to the teaching and assessment of acting across our programmes from Foundation through BA, MA and MFA. The postholder will teach a range of classes in acting fundamentals and collaborative principles and will have experience of broad, rigorous actor training with strong knowledge of key methodologies which may include Lecoq, Michael Chekhov, Stanislavski, Meisner, Viewpoints, and others.  Depending on individual skillsets and interests, the postholder may also lead devised/adaptation rehearsal projects, with potential opportunities to direct in-house and public productions.  Experience of screen acting technique would be desirable.

We are actively committed to attracting a broad range of talent to help build a diverse and inclusive staff community at GSA.  We recognise the importance of creating and sustaining a working environment where individuals from different backgrounds feel valued, respected and able to contribute fully, and we continue to develop our approach in this area.  We are taking steps to identify and reduce potential barriers that may be experienced by staff, applicants and students.

Steps taken include using inclusive recruitment practices such as diverse selection panels where possible, providing training to support fair decision-making, and assessing candidates against clear and relevant criteria.   We welcome applications from all backgrounds, and particularly encourage applications from groups that are currently under-represented, including people from the Global Majority,  disabled people, and those who identify as women, non-binary or trans.

If you feel you have the requisite skills and experience and would like to join our team then please apply.  If you have any questions about the role, please contact Dr Jaq Bessell at j.bessell@gsa.surrey.ac.uk or Prof Catherine McNamara  c.mcnamara@gsa.surrey.ac.uk
