We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as:

Graduate Teaching Assistant Studentship (1 post)

(50% Teaching assistant and 50% PhD)

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) while undertaking a part-time PhD in Psychology.

This studentship provides an excellent opportunity to develop both research and teaching experience, key components of an academic career. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and assessment on the BSc Psychology programme while completing a PhD under the supervision of academic staff within the Division.

Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support undergraduate teaching through activities such as:

  • Supporting workshops and seminars
  • Assisting with empirical research methods classes
  • Supporting PC-based statistics teaching
  • Marking coursework and examinations, with feedback provided to students
  • Undertaking other reasonable teaching duties appropriate to experience and skills

Teaching duties will be allocated in consultation with the BSc Psychology Programme Director and supported by teaching-focused colleagues.

Funding and Employment

The appointment combines:

  • A part-time Teaching Assistant post (50%)
  • Part-time PhD study (50%)

A Faculty-funded remission of part-time PhD tuition fees will be provided while the Teaching Assistant role is held. Continued employment is dependent upon successful enrolment on, and engagement with, the PhD programme.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum 2:1 honours degree in Psychology, or a Joint Honours degree including Psychology
  • Motivation to undertake doctoral research in Psychology
  • Willingness to teach across a range of undergraduate Psychology topics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable Criteria

We particularly welcome applicants with:

  • Knowledge of psychological research methods and data analysis
  • An interest in teaching and student support
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and time-management skills
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
