Professor of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics

Private University for Business and Technology

Full-time position, permanent contract. We offer a modern working environment that allows a balance between family and work. Remuneration is based on the W2 scale.

PHWT is a publicly recognised private university in Lower Saxony, the west of Germany. We offer dual study programmes that combine university studies with work placements in cooperation with around 200 companies, including multinationals.

We are seeking a professor with proven technical and scientific expertise in electrical engineering and mechatronics, focusing on:

  • Systems engineering: Designing complex mechatronic systems, from sensors to user interfaces.
  • Networking of technical systems: Expertise in bus systems, wireless technologies, Industrial IoT, and Industry 4.0.
  • Embedded systems and edge computing: Hands-on experience in microcontroller development and implementation.
  • Desirable additional knowledge includes control engineering and AI applications for technical systems.

As a visionary educator and researcher, you will bridge traditional hardware and modern software, teaching mechatronic systems as interconnected, intelligent wholes, rather than individual compnents. You will inspire students through bilingual (German and English) instruction – German is essential for collaboration with regional companies, which offer extensive research opportunities.

PHWT offers a dynamic research environment in materials engineering, lightweight construction, production automation, electrical engineering, and mechatronics. You will utilize our state-of-the-art laboratories – also including industry projects – and contribute to shaping our research priorities and facilities.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Securing and managing third-party funded and collaborative projects with industry and academic partners.
  • Engaging in teaching, research, and academic self-governance.
  • Collaborating with PHWT’s partner companies to transfer knowledge and drive innovation.

This role offers the chance to build a significant academic career, influence cutting-edge developments, and help PHWT maintain its leadership in dual study programs.

You have a PhD, peer-reviewed publications, a professional network and will have gained a minimum of three years of practical experience outside higher education. PHWT is subject to  Section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act.

For details about how to apply, including the job description and selection criteria, please contact Prof. Dr. Heike Horeschi, email: horeschi@phwt.de.

The position is a permanent post. Please send your application, including relevant supporting documents, specifying your areas of focus and a current list of publications, compiled into a single PDF file, by email to the President, Prof. Dr. Dennis De, via the 'Apply' button above (e: praesidium@phwt.de), by August 16th 2026.
