Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at Physics Department, University of Oxford.
The post holder is a member of a research group with responsibility for carrying out research on theoretical condensed matter physics. We are particularly interested in candidates with extensive numerical expertise, especially in the setting of 2d materials, using a full range of techniques: exact diagonalization, Monte Carlo, and where appropriate, tensor network techniques. The postholder should also have a broad familiarity with the theory of strongly correlated systems and excellent oral and written communication skills. The post holder provides guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students.
Applicants should hold a PhD, or be close to completion in physics or a related field and have numerical techniques, particularly as applied to 2d materials or moiré systems, including Hartree-Fock, Monte Carlo, and tensor network methods.
This is a full-time post, fixed term for 12 months.
The closing date for applications is noon GMT time on Monday, 20 July 2026
You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online job application (via the 'Apply' button above). The supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
You should arrange for your 2 referees to send your reference to physics- tp-recruitment@physics.ox.ac.uk
