The Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy at Royal Holloway seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Philosophy. The successful applicant would be expected to start in September 2026. This is fixed-term contract for the duration of 10 months (i.e. until the end of June 2027).
About the Department
The Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy is part of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a research-intensive unit. The Department provides a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to a diverse student body. We carry out research across different subdisciplines, including but not limited to the Centre for Continental Philosophy, the Centre for the Study and Application of Stoicism, and the (college-wide) Gender Institute.
About the role
This post is in part cover for an existing member of staff. The successful candidate will deliver convene and deliver modules in the Philosophy curriculum. In particular, we are looking for someone to convene and teach on the Department of Politics, International Relations, and Philosophy’s undergraduate first-year Introduction to Modern Philosophy (Autumn Term), second-year Empiricism and Rationalism (Spring Term), and combined second and third-year Philosophy of Religion (European tradition) (Spring Term) modules. Additional responsibilities include supervising undergraduate dissertation students and personal tutoring.
