About the Role

Informal Queries

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative researcher to play a leading role in shaping the future of Agritech. Working within a multidisciplinary research environment, you will drive the development of cutting-edge software, digital connectivity, automation and intelligent systems that address real-world challenges in agriculture.

The role offers a unique blend of strategic leadership, applied research and technical delivery, giving you the opportunity to influence the direction of pioneering projects from concept through to deployment. You will work closely with leading industrial partners, academic collaborators and funding bodies, contributing to technologies that have the potential to transform agricultural productivity, sustainability and resilience.

You will lead the development of advanced Agritech solutions spanning digital systems, smart automation, edge computing, AI-driven decision support, perception and sensing technologies, and digital twins. In addition to conducting high-impact research, you will help shape future research opportunities, support publications and dissemination activities, and represent the University at national and international events.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical excellence with leadership, collaboration and innovation, and who is motivated by seeing research translated into practical solutions with tangible industry impact.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher with a strong background in software development, digital systems or a related engineering or computer science discipline. You will have experience leading or delivering complex technical projects and be comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams involving both academic and industrial stakeholders.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in software design and development, with strong programming skills in Python and experience developing modern web, mobile or software applications. You will have knowledge of areas such as edge computing, networking, Linux-based systems, data management, APIs, containerisation and system integration. Experience in Agritech, robotics, automation, AI, digital twins, simulation environments, sensing technologies or connected systems would be highly advantageous.

You will be able to think strategically, identify emerging research opportunities, and translate innovative ideas into practical solutions. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, as the role requires engagement with project partners, contribution to publications and presentations, and representation of the University within national and international networks.

Most importantly, you will be passionate about developing technologies that create real-world impact and keen to contribute to a collaborative research environment that values innovation, excellence and industry engagement.
