Hours: Part time, Monday – Wednesday Evening Supervisor (0.11 FTE)
(9 hours per week in term-time, Bank Holidays)
Contract type: Permanent
Grade 4: £28,437 - £32,108 per annum (pro rata)
About the role
Join the Bodleian Law Library and help deliver an outstanding evening service for students, researchers and visitors. You will supervise a small evening team, provide welcoming front-line reader support, oversee the enquiry desk and library closing procedures, assist readers with library resources and IT, and help maintain a safe, efficient and customer-focused environment.
You will also contribute to staff training and ensure library procedures and service standards are consistently followed.
This is a permanent, part-time, term-time-only post, working 9 hours per week (during Michaelmas, Hilary, and Trinity Terms, Bank holidays). The working pattern is Monday to Wednesday, 19:00–22:00.
As this role requires you to work during your contracted working period, annual leave cannot be taken during this time, including on bank holidays. Instead, you will receive payment in lieu of any annual leave and bank holiday entitlement accrued during your employment.
This role requires lifting, moving and carrying books and journals.
About You
You will have excellent customer service and communication skills, strong IT confidence, and the ability to supervise colleagues while remaining calm under pressure.
You will be reliable, organised, able to work accurately with minimal supervision, and committed to delivering a high-quality library service.
Previous experience in reader services, library systems or staff training would be an advantage.
Diversity
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at recruitment@glam.ox.ac.uk.
How to apply
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting evidence form using the attached template as part of your online application. Your supporting evidence form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered.
We aim to provide a supportive working environment and are happy to discuss training and professional development opportunities. The Chair of this recruitment panel will be Samantha Lim, Academic Services Librarian, who can be contacted with enquiries relating to the role (samantha.lim@bodleian.ox.ac.uk). General queries about the recruitment and application process should be directed to the Recruitment team within our Human Resources department (recruitment@glam.ox.ac.uk).
Only applications received online by 12.00 midday (BST) on Friday 31 July 2026 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place in-person during week commencing 17 August 2026.
