About this role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Teaching Technician to join our Psychology Technical Team within the College of Health, Science and Society. Working closely with academics, professional services staff and students, you will support practical teaching, laboratory-based learning and research activities across Psychology programmes.
You will prepare and support practical laboratory sessions, demonstrate specialist equipment, software and research methods, and help students develop the skills required throughout their studies. You will also support undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, providing technical advice and guidance on experimental techniques and methodologies.
Alongside your student-facing responsibilities, you will help manage laboratory equipment and resources, support procurement and maintenance activities, and ensure high standards of health, safety and wellbeing are maintained.
This is a varied and rewarding role that combines technical expertise, practical teaching support and student engagement, with opportunities to contribute to outreach activities, events and the wider student experience.
About you
You will hold a degree in Psychology or a related discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience, with experience supporting practical Psychology teaching or research. You will be confident using specialist psychological equipment, software and research methodologies, ideally within a Higher Education environment.
You will enjoy working directly with students, demonstrating practical techniques, supporting laboratory-based teaching for small and large groups, and providing guidance on research methods and experimental design. Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Experience in specialist areas such as psychometrics, eye-tracking, electroencephalography (EEG), brain stimulation methods, experiment programming, or Psychology research software would be advantageous, as would experience supporting student research projects or participant pool activities.
Above all, you will be collaborative, adaptable and passionate about supporting student success through high-quality technical, practical and research support.
Where you will be working
In this role, you’ll be based at our modern Frenchay Campus
This role is campus based with only the occasional opportunity to work from home outside of teaching weeks.
