Postdoctoral Researcher

Sectoral and Integrated Modelling of Climate, Resources and Economic Policy

The appointment will be 1,5 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is in accordance with the German State Regulated Public Salary Scale (TV-L E13 100%).

We offer

The Technical University of Munich as one of the most renowned universities in Europe and long-standing member of the German “Initiative of Excellence” offers state-of-the-art research in a diverse and impactoriented atmosphere.

The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics offers a stimulating work environment that promotes individual creativity and effective teamwork at the highest level. Members of the Chair Group are engaged in internationally competitive research in a wide range of topics in the fields of agricultural and resource economics, food, and energy production and supply, interdisciplinary modelling of climate adaptation and ecosystem services as well as policy evaluation aimed at publication in top-level journals (www.ep.mgt.tum.de/pur/).

Tasks

The successful candidate is expected to actively lead and contribute to the Chair group’s tasks in various national and international projects in the areas of natural resource management and climate adaptation. Projects include large international Horizon Europe-financed collaborative projects (e.g., Landprint, Aquawise) or nationally funded projects. The successful candidate is also expected to be actively involved in teaching activities and will contribute to the curricula development of the Chair group. He/she will further lead and contribute to competitive project funding bids.

The successful applicant will develop his/her own research agenda in the fields of

  • climate adaptation and resilience modelling in agri-food and natural resource systems across multiple scales;
  • sectoral and policy analysis using agricultural market models (e.g., AGMEMOD, CAPRI) to assess climate and CAP-related policies;
  • economic policy assessment and forecasting using CGE and related modelling approaches;
  • integrated climate–land-use–economy modelling (e.g., MAgPIE, LPJmL, or similar frameworks) to analyse trade-offs between food production, ecosystem services, biodiversity, and climate objectives.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold an excellent Ph.D. degree in Applied Economics (i.e. Environmental, Resource, Agricultural, Food, Climate or Sustainability Economics) or in a related quantitatively oriented discipline (e.g. Environmental Engineering). Experience in economic and interdisciplinary modelling, sectoral and integrated assessment, or policy-oriented simulation of climate, natural resource, and agri-food systems is highly desirable. Applicants with at least two years of postdoctoral research experience, demonstrated through publications, project involvement, and modelling expertise, are particularly encouraged to apply.

A clear interest in natural resources, climate adaptation, technological solutions, policy analysis as well as exceptional analytical skills are required. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong and proven focus on publishing in international peer-reviewed journals and attracting competitive funding. An ability to work effectively in a young and dynamic research team that is internationally engaged through interdisciplinary research collaborations will be crucial. Exemplary projects (e.g., EU, DFG, BMBF) can be found on our homepage (www.ep.mgt.tum.de/pur/). Regions for current research collaborations include Asia, Africa and South America. An interest in supplementary teaching is an essential advantage. Finally, excellent spoken and written English are required, while German language could also be an asset.

Application

Please submit your electronic application (CV, copies of your diplomas and transcripts, list of publications, teaching experience etc.) as well as a list of referees in a single PDF to the head of the Chair group, Professor Johannes Sauer via the 'Apply' button above (e: jo.sauer@tum.de). For further information, please contact Maria Vrachioli, PhD (maria.vrachioli@tum.de) or Dr. Fabian Frick (fabian.frick@tum.de). Please note that applications will be reviewed on a rolling-basis.

Final deadline for applications: October 15th, 2026

As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, TUM explicitly encourages nominations of and applications from women as well as from all others who would bring additional diversity dimensions to the university’s research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications.
