Senior Student Engagement Advisor

Manchester Metropolitan University – Student Services

About the Team

The Student Engagement Team provides an all-encompassing service for all aspects of student engagement. This includes monitoring the engagement levels of all students, proactively contacting students where data indicates they may need support, collaborating with other professional service teams and academic staff to reduce duplication and increase focus on the reduction of student attrition.

We focus on early intervention for students at risk of academic failure and ensure we provide a timely response to student engagement concerns through a front-line student engagement triage service.

We also provide training and guidance to academic members of staff and liaise with personal tutors and other senior members of faculties to ensure the withdrawal process is followed accurately and timely.

The work we do impacts significantly on both the student experience and supports the Education strategy KPIs. We are committed to developing and maintaining systems and processes that support student engagement and this role will play a pivotal part in the continuous improvement of the service we provide.

About the Role

  • Senior Student Engagement Advisers have line management responsibilities for a small number of Student Engagement Advisers.
  • You will also work with Personal Tutors, Personal Tutor Leads, Academics and Professional Services Staff to improve student engagement rates across the University. Senior Student Engagement Advisers manage complex caseloads and provide advice and guidance to a range of students with low engagement rates, ensuring that students are referred onto the most appropriate support pathway to meet their needs.
  • This role acts as a named contact for staff and will meet on a regular basis with Personal Tutor Leads to discuss persistent student engagement concerns.
  • The post holder will support the Student Engagement Manager to embed a single team offering an effective triage service and line manage Student Engagement Advisers to develop and deliver high quality and proactive services, whilst being responsive to any changing demands.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to play a significant role in a team that monitors student engagement and proactively act where we can see a student who may need our support.

About You

  • The ideal candidate will have an in depth knowledge of the factors that impact student engagement and the support services we can put in place to help them.
  • They will be a proactive member of the team, expected to input directly into our operations by working collaboratively with the Student Engagement Manager, colleagues across Professional Services and representatives from our faculties.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills along with an analytic and detailed approach to their work is essential in this role.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to lead and motivate a small team to perform a variety of tasks within set guidelines and processes.

We have a 12-month fixed term position to cover for a seconded member of staff.

If you would like to join our team and have a passion for providing solutions to the issues faced by some of our student population, we would love to hear from you.
