We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher: Oxford-AbbVie Immunology Postdoctoral Fellowship to join the Nuffield Department of Medicine and the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology. The central mission of these postdoctoral positions is to accelerate basic scientific discoveries and bring medicines to patients more quickly, with outputs expected to impact future AbbVie drug programmes and have direct translational relevance.

You will be responsible for leading the delivery of experimental assays and profiling while managing your own academic research and administrative activities. This includes selecting, designing, optimising and implementing experimental protocols, including standardised protocols for patient sample flows involving collection, storage and processing, and developing and reviewing standard operating procedures. The role includes processing and inventorying human tissue samples and using specialist laboratory equipment such as tissue culture hoods, PCR machines, microscopes and flow cytometers.

You will maintain laboratory databases, analyse and interpret experimental data, and generate material for conferences, meetings and public engagement. You will write up experimental results, methodology and interpretation for reports and publications, ensure the validity and reliability of data, and work with computational biologists to comply with data management principles and maximise data sharing within the Oxford–AbbVie initiative.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or be close to completion) in immunology or a related area and demonstrate commitment to a team science approach with willingness to form a highly collaborative team with the other postdoctoral researchers in the AIN initiative. You must demonstrate interest in translational research and the application of immunology to drug discovery, together with a strong understanding of disease pathology and cell biology underlying immune-mediated inflammatory disease. Strong experience in laboratory-based immunology techniques is required, including sterile human tissue handling and culture, molecular biology and cell-based profiling such as imaging or FACS. You will also demonstrate the ability to analyse, interpret, present and publish complex biological data in reputable journals, together with excellent communication, organisational and record-keeping skills.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed-term contract until 18 May 2029 and is funded by AbbVie.

Only applications received before 12 middays on Monday 27 July 2026 will be considered. Please quote 185607 on all correspondence.
