Salary: £30,600 to £37,400 per annum depending on qualifications and experience
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 16th July 2026

The Norwich Bioscience Institutes Partnership (NBIP) has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and analytical Energy and Environment Officer to support the delivery of environmental and sustainability initiatives across the NBI Partnership.

Background:

The Norwich Bioscience Institutes are a cluster of internationally renowned research organisations, working to tackle major challenges of the 21st Century – the sustainability of our environment, our food supplies and healthy ageing.

The NBI Partnership provides high quality, non-scientific support services for the diverse community of staff, students and visiting workers at the Institutes (the Earlham Institute, John Innes Centre, The Sainsbury Laboratory and Quadram Institute Bioscience) and for the NBI Partnership.

Based on the Norwich Research Park amongst 230 hectares of parkland, you will be joining a committed, professional and welcoming team.  In addition, you will enjoy a competitive salary and annual leave, our defined contribution pension scheme, excellent recreational facilities and a range of other employee benefits.

The role:

Reporting to the Energy and Environmental Manager, you will support sustainability, energy, and environmental management activities across multiple institutes. You’ll contribute to compliance actions or statutory/voluntary reporting, help maintain ISO14001 accreditation, and drive initiatives across waste, water, energy, procurement, travel, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The role will be dynamic and adaptable across the broad range of environmental impacts and challenges encountered across the site, and would suit someone with a desire to build deep skills and broad experience in the environmental or energy sector.

You will be detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about sustainability, with strong analytical and communication skills.

This role is broad, we would not expect candidates to be fully qualified across the whole spectrum of the role and responsibilities, and so would provide deep and ongoing professional development to any candidate with the enthusiasm and willingness to learn new skills required by the role.

The ideal candidate:

The post holder will be educated to a GCSE level or equivalent as a minimum and also hold either a relevant sustainability or environmental qualification or degree-level education in a related field.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of environmental management systems, sustainability reporting and data analysis, with experience of using Excel and/or Power BI to interpret complex data. They will also have experience supporting sustainability, energy management or compliance activities, ideally within an ISO 14001 environment but this is not essential.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £30,600 to £37,400 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post on a permanent contract.
